back to the pole

Hello Internet,

Since we chatted last I was in NYC for the Red Umbrella Diaries to read a piece from our Dirty Girl zine which is finally done. If you’d like a copy, awesome. Contributors get free copies and I think we’re making everyone else pay for shipping at least. Printing is expensive so if you’d like to donate to our little zine endeavor send your donations to Tara via PP at hobostripper [at] gmail.com

Next issue is called Dirty Work which is about the intersections of class, dirt, and sex work. Think about it and send us a piece, art or whatever that fits within that theme, please. :-)

I also started stripping again because I needed quick cash to get my own space because the place I’m living at now is just not conducive to the type of work I’m used to doing, i.e. camming or escorting, etc. or many other things like having sacred space.

I think its just time though at 23 years old for me to have a home space that is stable, peaceful and completely mine. I’ve never had that and would like to give that to myself before my 24th birthday.

I’ve been dancing at T’s Lounge in West Palm Beach which has been a fucked up reintroduction to the mainstream adult industry, which is still just as fucked up as it was when I left it. I don’t want to be one of those people that complains about issues without providing any solutions though because that doesn’t get anyone anywhere.

So, my first night the manager takes me over and introduces me to the owner, our interraction went a little something like this:

“Show me your tits.” -owner

“Excuse me?” -me

“Show me your tits” -owner

“Is this an auditions?” – me

“No. You already got the job.” -owner

“Are you tipping me?” -me

*scoffs*

“Um…well, you are running a business here, right?” -me

This dude is obviously drunk and can hardly focus on me.

“Yep I am” -owner

“Well, if I’m working I expect to be compensated” -me

I walk away and hear him tell his buddies that I’m fucked up. But later on his friend motions me over and sticks money down my top and into my panties.

I smile sweetly at the owner as I pull the top of my dress down.

“See how that works?” -me

“He just wants to see what he hired” – his friend

“Thats called an audition” – me

This club is a lot different than Pure Platinum was when I worked in Fort Lauderdale. There we had to wear floor length gowns, we weren’t allowed to spread our legs on stage or get touched on stage. Here you practically have to masturbate on stage to get guys to tip you. Its weird and I’m not sure if its the economy or just the club since I haven’t been able to arrange transportation to other places to see what its like at other clubs in this county.

Did I mention that I had to get a license to strip in Palm Beach County? Yes, a stripper license. Its real and totally useless, no ID number or anything, just my legal name and “adult entertainer”. Probably just so the IRS can keep track of me. Weird.

I shaved my armpits and legs and left a tiny patch of pubic hair that the DJ calls a bush and makes fun of me everytime I’m on stage.

In other news, I need to get laid, by someone that isn’t going to push all their insecurities on me, try and trap me in a monogamous relationship or treat me like shit or have no regard for sexual energy or magick. Am I asking for too much?

I could say more. But I’m at a point in my life where I’m realizing how much I need to get out of my own way and that part of that includes not writing as much about myself on the internet since people take it way too seriously or completely out of context.

Maybe I’ll just make zines from now on and charge people for it.

I need to take more photos.

The End.

If it’s really a small patch of fur left in your groinal area, then you need to correct the DJ and have him call it a “soul patch”.
    Much nicer I think.
Don’t let him get to you. He sounds a little infantile.

Nothing wrong with writing about yourself on the Internet. If people don’t like it they don’t have to read it. I was actually quite pleased to see something new from you.

Might be the economy. I’ve only been dancing 2 years but everyone I speak to who’s been dancing for longer can’t believe how bad the industry’s gotten just since the economy started rly tanking a couple yrs ago. It’s sad. I was never around for the “good ol days” of thousand dollar nights (hell, even consistent $300 nights, many girls have at least one or 2 nights a week where they leave in the negative or with barely more than their house fee/tipout, and the other nights are a hustle and a half just to make up for it

Also I hear SoFla stripclubs are notoriously bad, particularly nowadays. I grew up in SoFla but didnt dance there. Was thinking of trying out Rachel’s in West Palm Beach, hear they’re a nice gown club w/ lotsa rich old dudes

…either way though, that boss was really shitty and unprofessional. You auditioned, you got hired, he was just trying to flaunt his power to see tits upon request. Props to you for sticking up for yourself!

  • That owner is a jerk. Nice way to get people excited to come work for you.

  • [...] Looks like the next issue revolves around “the intersections of class, dirt, and sex work&#822… if you have something to submit. I haven’t even requested a copy to read/look at yet, let alone submitted anything, but I’m excited about anything/everything that they put together and am thankful for the work they’re doing with the zine and everything else they do and love. [...]

  • forgot to mention that said stripper license was $75 for a useless piece of plastic.

    What made you choose T’s?

A strip bar where hairy pits and pubes are encouraged, or at least accepted would be cool.

Clearly, that manager is an idiot. And it goes to show that bosses everywhere can be morons. Nothing is more frustrating than working a hard, physically demanding job and having the boss try to get you to work for him for free. Whether it’s stripping, moving, landscaping or whatever, it’s total bullshit to give a freebie to the guy who’s earning money off of your hard work.

You know Palm Beach County just figured out a flawless way to get some revenue through selling those licenses. The cards cost maybe a couple bucks to print, and the rest is all profit. I was just curious, is the license good for life, or do you have to renew it?

I wish you a lot of luck in the new job. I gotta say, I respect you for your openness and honesty, more power to you.

I’ve learned that the worse the workers are treated, the more the boss expects them to be happy and friendly all the time. I can’t imagine being a stripper. I mean, I’ve gone to strip clubs in the past, and if I had to give someone like me a private dance, I’d feel really depressed. I’d question a number of things about my life. I’d question them hard.

What really gets me is how badly strip club owners get away with treating the workers. Most strip clubs are crappy old buildings in crappy parts of town that would die within 24 hours if there weren’t naked women in there, and yet, some owners pay their bouncers better than the girls.

For example, in one club I go to, the girls have to pay the owner to work. Yes, they give the owner money just to walk through the door, and then every private dance they get, half of that money goes to the owner as well. It isn’t hard to imagine a scenario where a girl ends up losing money for having shown up to work. That’s bullshit. But that’s just the tip of the iceberg.

Oh, Sequoia. Totally know a few people that would fit this bill. :)

    Keep rocking.
