forest bootcampHello hello. I am alive and well. Its been about a week and I”ve spent every single day tired, sweaty, hot and dirty but for some reason its fun. Yesterday I hiked 17 miles and I haven’t felt better. Here are some photos, I wish I had more well formed thoughts to share but all I can say for now is that its beautiful out here and I’m so grateful for every moment of it. I’m sorry about the lack of photos, but I”m at a library right now and I had to get the lady to unlock the computer so that I could even access my blog and I’m mad tired and need to eat. 21 comments to forest bootcamp |

…and you get to enjoy it for at least 23 more weeks! Say hi to Yogi and Boo Boo.
Can’t believe you are apologizing for the pix. They are perfect. Thanks for allowing your friends to enjoy it vicariously.
How far off the trail would you have to go to get a Wendy’s frosty?
I am happy for you and jealous of you. Wonderful! I know there’s some yummy food up Damascus way…
The pictures are lovely!
And so it begins!
Here’s to good weather, no foot problems, good company, good solitude, great light and great experiences
I’ll be awaiting your progress reports and pictures with interest… it looks like you’ve got off to a great start
If we have to wait till you get to the next library before you post more pix, we may start getting restless. Hope you keep a record of how many miles you cover in a day, for your entire hike. It will be interesting to see how much easier it gets for you and to discover the max you are comfortable with. Meriwether Lewis and his dog would often do in the low twenties while Clark and the others were paddling up the Missouri.
Hahah. I bet you feel alive right now. I bet food tastes sweeter than ever before. I bet a warm soft bed or a hot shower feels like true paradise. Hehe, that’s why I go camping for weeks with a bare minimum of supplies.
Drop by and say hi when you in the area.
Thanks for the great pix and the update, looking forward to the next one!
Got a ride home from Maine???
Glad to hear from you Sequoia. And the picture quality is good as always. You have a very good eye and I look forward to reading and seeing
what you submit next. Good luck with the rest of your journey.
I’m glad that your enjoying the great outdoors. I hope you have fun and take plenty of pictures as well.
We are all looking forward to the pictures and stories.
Hey guys, not much to say, I’m 100 miles in and sneaking around the internet to post here. I need some kind of super light weight laptop so I don’t have to do this
Try looking at getting a NETBOOK. they are lightweight and are extremely portable and compact. I would look at HP Mini netbooks or Dell netbooks. Also, Look for Netbooks that have webcam, so you can Skype and call people as well.
I speak for all in expressing relief you have not been eaten by black bears… yet. And forget backpacking a laptop. You need to be able to run fast when you need to. Just go from library to library. They are bound to be coming up more frequently if you can ever just get out of Dixie.
Stay warm!
And the downside to hiking with a computer is that you wouldn’t be away from it…
Oh how wonderful, I’ve never done a big hike before… only little day ones… which seems ridiculous since I’m from New Zealand. You’re really making me crave hiking. And physical fitness, haha.
Weathers comming, find yourself a nice place to hang, not too high up and out of the creekbeds, could last a few days.Slow and steady keeps the ankle from twisting, cant wait to see more awsome pics .
so happy and proud of you ms redd. love you, girl.
Gotta agree with Shere Khan (Black Panther anyone?) this is all about you getting yourself back to equilibrium. First things first….. <3 <3
Wait, wasn’t Shere Khan the tiger? Bagheera was the black panther no? Forgive me, but it’s been decades since I read the Jungle book…
Tramp on Sahara, one foot in front of the other, and you’ll be there in no time.
