I can see a pragmatic argument for you keeping your web identity distinct from your day-to-day identity (actually, I think it’s interesting that it sounds like you don’t do this, and have mostly taken on the persona in real life). Now, by ‘real name,’ do you mean ‘legal identification?’ Because in my opinion, the two are very very different. Why should I not be the one to choose my real name? Why should my parents get to do that?
Especially in my case, as the name my parents gave to me was quite horrible (in my opinion). While I haven’t had a legal name change (nor do I feel I should; why should I let a government record determine my identity?), I chose my Real Name™ nearly twenty years ago now. Alas, some of my work is related to mining web-related data. Some of the people related through projects would become very uncomfortable if following my name produced these topics.
