tre arrow
I met this guy (www.trearrow.org) at our local grassroots activist center, he was giving a Q & A session about being a political prisoner, his story is way interesting and at one point he was called America’s Most Wanted Eco-Terrorist. I *may* have a potential phone interview with him, if he calls and if I can find my stupid voice recorder. Has anybody tried using skype’s phone call recorder? Does it work well? 11 comments to tre arrow |

bleh, what an awful photo of me.
Sequoia,
I have used Skype and Skype is an easy way do to video conferencing and You can Use Skype to make phone calls and Call international as well. I am on Skype and if you want me to show you how to Use Skype, Let me know. Nice photo of you you.
I know how to use skype, I’m wondering if anyone has used it’s phonecall RECORDING thing.
I use skype everyday on NiteFlirt
Not really, but I know it works on the same principle as login all the IM chats
I dunno, but that’s an interview I definitely wanna hear, so I hope it works out.
The interview will be good, count on it, the guy is like the Special Forces of environmentalism. Go see him if he is ever in your neighborhood.
I found another interview with him via Alternatives magazine:

I haven’t used it myself but I know several podcasts that use Skype to record the audio and it works well for them. There are several things you need to think about.
The first is your internet connection, the faster the better. If you can hook up your laptop via ethernet, do so. It will be faster than wifi and you’ll get better audio.
The second thing to do is to run nothing else on the computer other than Skype, especially applications that check mail or download anything.
The quality of the mike is very important too. A cheap mike can make the best Skype connection sound like crap. If you have a good headset for Skype, use it.
One useful technique is to have Tre record his voice on his end and then send you the audio. Then you can combine both tracks. This of course assumes that you have access to software that can combine and sync two audio tracks.
If the sound quality isn’t the best, there are some sound apps that will allow you to clean up a noisy track. But even the best audio software can only go so far.
Before the big day, practice recording some other conversations. That way you can make some mistakes and learn what to avoid before the interview.
I can’t wait to hear what Tre has to say. He seems like a fascinating guy.
Good luck
Quick thought, probably you could write a post on this – if we condone extremist action to save the environment, how we can we condemn others that use extremist actions to their ends? I think specifically of abortion and the people who bomb and shoot abortionists and abortion clinics. I think it’s sickening, but you can’t deny that they feel as passionate about their cause as a so-called ecoterrorist feels about his, so where do you draw the line? It’s OK to be a terrorist as long as you agree with me? Be careful with the precendents that you are willing to set – you can’t have one without the other, just like freedom of speech. If you want the freedom to preach your spiritual views then you have to be willing to put up with the preaching of fundamentalist nuts from all religious sects because your passionate belief is no more credible then their passionate belief.
Get it? I hope so. It’s a very complicated issue. Just realize that when you grant a right to one group then that same right will (probably) extend to all groups and may end up doing more damage to your cause than good.
I believe in equal freedoms for all ending at the point where they infringe on the rights of others, be they abortionists or companies that cut down forests.
you’re right, but you’re wrong about Tre.
Tre Arrow was profiled by the FBI and convicted of a terrorist crime he did not commit.
I don’t believe the gov’t has the right to profile people, accuse and punish them for crimes they did not commit.
Hey there, you should check out a program called “Callburner” if you want to record Skype chats, very useful and ridiculously easy to use.
