this is what democracy looks likeThis is What Democracy Looks Like is a documentary about the WTO summit in Seattle in 1999 and the protests that occurred. This film was taken from 100 different activists that were filming the protesters and the clashes with police. In watching this I can say I’ve never been so disgusted with law enforcement. I mean, they were GASSING and SHOOTING at non-violent protesters! But its a pretty cool documentary in that its awesome to see what happens when labor rights’ groups join up with student groups that join up with environmental groups that join up with tons of other folk to protest against a shared enemy. Its kind of cool when people collectively realize that they’re being exploited by a bunch of greedy corporations and get really fucking pissed about it. At one point hey did shut down the WTO meeting and none of the corporate assholes could leave the building. HAHA! Watch it, it’ll make ya feel good 6 comments to this is what democracy looks like |

I think that video made me sick because if this is Democracy, how come we expect other countries to have democracy when we in America aren’t meeting those standards as well.
We may have evolved a little since Kent State.
That all went down on Bill Clinton’s watch. Nicky is right about they hypocrisy of our leaders, both the conservative and the neoliberals.
I agree, though I must say this: I think capitalism is a Republican invention.
People should always be before profits. Corporations have become the new monarchies and people have no choice but to be corporate grunts and wage slaves in order to make a living in this country.
Thank Goddess for sex work! When I can take the money (or so graciously receive) from the men working for the patriarchal corporations and put it back into things that support life instead of raping it, like organic gardening, that is what will undermine the system.
It’s strange. A lot of people can say they remember what they were doing when Kennedy was assassinated. For me, I recall clearly sitting in high school English hearing the media reports streaming on the internet. One of those instances that made me realize that the world was bigger than me, that there are important things going on here and now.
Agreed that people should come before profits. But after doing some research on the subject it appears that Capatalism in various forms has been around long before the Republican Party. In all civilizations, Capatalism has existed albeit in limited form. In our own country it existed long before we became an independent nation. An obvious abuse of the system would be in the slave trade of this country, which was subsequently abolished by President Abraham Lincoln( a republican) with the Emancipation Proclomation which consisted of two executive orders one in September 1862 and the other in 1863.
It was of course finally oboloshed in the US; with the 13th Amendment in 1865.
The 13th Amendment was part of the Republican platform when Linclon ran for his second term.
