@ Sean

Your making a strawman argument. I linked to a WSJ article which explained H.R. 875. H.R. 875 was written in response to the tainted peanut butter incident not too long ago. It will impose tougher standards for commercially (i.e. on a farm) grown food. It has no effect on gardens.

''Food Safety regulation will not result in safer food, it never has before''

Sure it has. here is a test go to Mexico and drink a glass of tap water then go anywhere in the U.S. and do the same. See which gives you explosive diarreah and which doesn't.

Wayne, if you imagine that any politician is a good guy who is going to stand against the huge financial clout of worldwide agribusiness and biotech companies then you need to think again.
Food Safety regulation will not result in safer food, it never has before. It will result in ever greater standardisation and the eventual removal and illegalty of all foods which do not fit specific criteria. Those criteria will be the ones proposed by Monsanto and the other companies involved.

I'm not surprised. Ron Paul's definition of a police state is one where the people are not allowed to do anything without permission from the government. Bills like this one prove just how closely we are getting to just that sort of police state.

Of course, in my mind, this sort of agri-business gift from the government is just more proof that the first caucus of the election cycle should no longer be in Iowa. I wouldn't be suprised if this is just some people getting repaid for their work during the election.

I love the euphemistic name for it -- like The Patriot Act, that pretty much guarantees it will operate exactly opposite what it is called.

It's tragically serious. we need to contact all our activist organizations & elected officials and keep banging away at them until this lunacy is stopped!

Oh, I wouldn't be at all surprised.

A friend of mine is a Weston A Price devotee, and therefore, a raw milk drinker, and anyone who's watched what those people go through wouldn't be too shocked they might be trying this as well.

But in the age of the Internet, no group is small enough to ignore.

This bill is nuts and apparently this is where it is now, in committee.

http://www.govtrack.us/congress/bill.xpd?bill=h111-875

I hope like most bills it doesn't make it out of committee, I'm in England but I feel sure you'll lobby against it and join with others who feel the same.
